Moores Hill man killed Tuesday in Dearborn County head on crash

A man’s life was taken needlessly on Tuesday in a Dearborn County head on crash involving two vehicles according to Indiana State Police and WTHR reports. Steven Ahaus was pronounced dead on the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner’s office after a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center line of the road, resulting in a head on collision. Reports show that the other driver involved, Rocky McMurray, tested twice over the legal limit in preliminary breath tests at the scene of the accident. McMurray was treated for internal injuries at a local hospital.

Drive defensively. The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reports that 180 fatalities occurred due to accidents involving a drunk driver in 2015. Entirely too many avoidable tragedies occur on Indiana roadways due to an impaired driver getting behind the wheel.

Drive safe. Gone are the days of waiting hours for a taxi cab to arrive with new driving services like Uber or Lyft. Utilize them using an app on your phone if you plan on having a drink while out, or always designate a sober driver for the evening. The bottom line-don’t risk taking someone’s life by driving while intoxicated.

Tabor Law Firm urges Indiana residents to drive with caution, and report any suspected intoxicated drivers on the roadways by contacting police. Never try to stop a drunk driver yourself, and distance your vehicle as much as possible from the suspected impaired driver. When calling 911, prepare to have as much of the following information as possible:

  • Vehicle description
  • License plate number, if possible
  • Location of the vehicle
  • Closest Cross streets
  • Other identifying markers

If you or a loved one has been involved in an accident resulting in a fatality or serious injury, don’t hesitate, contact Tabor Law Firm today. The initial consultation is free.
