Indianapolis Hit-And-Run Could Result in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

When people lose a beloved family member, usually the last thing on their minds is money. In the aftermath of such a tragic loss, many individuals find themselves too incapacitated by grief to think clearly, and unable to work or immediately return to their lives as before; additionally, there is always the added financial burden of things like funeral costs and medical expenses. Though a wrongful death lawsuit cannot undo what has already occurred, a successfully presented case can ease the resulting financial stresses.

In Indianapolis, a family has just suffered a devastating loss. The name of the woman who was killed was not provided in the first reports of a fatal accident, in order to give authorities time to notify the victim’s next of kin. Police arrested a 20-year-old man for a hit-and-run accident that left the woman, a 22-year-old passenger in the vehicle the 20 year struck, dead at the scene of the crash. Officers responded to the incident at around midnight on Sunday, April 23.

The accused’s vehicle apparently struck another vehicle occupied by a 22-year-old male driver and the now-deceased passenger. After the collision sheared the vehicle in two, police say the driver believed responsible fled the site of the crash. Officers quickly apprehended him, however, as he had apparently run from the scene on foot.

Investigators believe that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. Regardless, the accused man is already facing level five felony charges, including failure to stop at an accident involving death. Apart from any criminal charges the man is facing, the family of the deceased woman have every right to consult an attorney in the Greater Indianapolis area to explore grounds for pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit against him and any separate owner of the vehicle he was operating.
