10 Tips to End Distracted Driving

The dangers of distracted driving are pretty well known at this point. But according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,450 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2016. 9.2 percent of fatal crashes in 2016 were reported as distraction-related. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and we at Tabor Law Firm thought we could share some helpful tips to put an end to distracted driving.

1. Use your cell phone for emergency situations only.

2. Put your phone in Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode.

3. If you are drowsy, pull over.

4. Limit the number of passengers and the level of activity inside the vehicle.

5. Avoid eating while driving.

6. Do your multi-tasking before getting in the vehicle.

7. Store loose gear, possessions and other distractions that could roll around in the vehicle, so you don't feel tempted to reach for them on the floor or the seat.

8. Finish dressing and personal grooming at home - before you get on the road.

9. Utilize automotive software like Teen Driver Technology from Chevrolet.

9. Emotional driving can be a distraction, too. This type of unsafe driving means your mind is not on the road ahead, even if your eyes are. Emotional driving can be being upset, sad or mad about something personal before getting behind the wheel, or it may also mean getting caught up in a case of road rage.

If you or someone you know is a victim of a distracted driver contact Tabor Law Firm in Indianapolis today.
