Semi-truck's Illegal U-Turn causes accident with serious injuries

Recently Indiana roadways have been plagued with accidents involving semi-trucks.  On Monday, January 23rd yet another accident was reported by Indiana State Police involving a semi tractor-trailer, which seriously injured two people in Bloomington, Indiana on State Road 37. The driver of the vehicle, Jeremy Johnson, suffered head and back injuries, and the passenger, Elizabeth Johnson, suffered severe head injuries as well. Both were transported via emergency vehicles to IU Health Bloomington.

Head and back injuries can be two of the most severe and debilitating types of injuries resulting from a semi tractor-trailer collision. Both of these individuals could suffer lifelong injuries from an accident that could have easily been prevented, had the semi-truck not made an illegal U-Turn. During the accident, Johnson's vehicle rolled over, and became trapped underneath the semi. Fortunately, both Jeremy and Elizabeth were wearing seatbelts; if they had not been wearing seatbelts, this collision could have easily resulted in two fatalities.

Indiana is one 10 states with the highest rate of fatal accidents involving semi-trucks across the country. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported 117 fatal accidents involving trucks in Indiana in 2015. Data has not yet been released for 2016.
