Agency: Troubling accident trend owes to driver negligence

Agency: Troubling accident trend owes to driver negligenceFor Indianapolis residents and other individuals and families living all across Indiana who have a gut feeling that a lot of dire outcomes are occurring on state and federal roads, there's a sad wealth of evidence to back that up.

In fact, a national report issued just last week by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concludes that deadly crashes are occurring across the country at a frighteningly high rate.

And one that is spiking from prior years, to boot. A recent USA TODAY article discussing the fatality-related data notes last year's "disastrous upward trend" from immediately preceding years.

The relevant numbers are discouraging, as well as shocking.

Here's one: The NHTSA states that 37,461 people were killed nationally in motor vehicle accidents last year.

Extrapolated, that averages out to more than 720 fatal victims every week of the year.

What especially concerns safety regulators are the direct causes that yield those deadly outcomes, which are in far too many instances acts of human negligence underscored by wrong behind-the-wheel decisions made by drivers. According to the NHTSA, many of those motorists are speeding when they cause accidents and take the lives of others. Some are unbelted. Others are drunk.

Safety officials say that pedestrian deaths and motorcycle fatalities spiked upward last year s a result of such behaviors.

Sadly, our roads will never be accident-free, given that drivers daily make mistakes that contribute directly to catastrophic and fatal injuries for innocent third parties.

Victims and their families often find that aggressively pursuing a meaningful money recovery against parties whose negligent conduct has caused serious or fatal injuries is a vitally important act.

The experienced personal injury and wrongful death attorneys at Tabor Law Firm help them do that. We fight diligently on our client's behalf to assess wrongdoing, deter similar conduct in the future and collect a maximum recoverable amount that compensates them for lost wages, medical expenses, therapy/rehabilitation costs, pain and suffering, property damage and many other expenses.

Many accident victims feel justifiably empowered by taking proactive action in the wake of injuries suffered through third-party negligence. Taking charge can be affirming and spell the first step toward obtaining a legal remedy that helps promote a positive future.
